Where do you derive your identity from?

Identity is the state of having unique identifying characterises held by no other person or thing; It is the individual characteristics by which a person is recognised.

Without the knowledge of our identity, we will be disconnected from our past; we will not be in touch with who we presently are and will be in the dark of who we ought to become.

In other to have a good grasp of our identity, we must first understand that we are spirit beings, living in a body, in possession of a soul.

God is Spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and truth.”(John 4:24)

So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God, he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)

Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the Spirit he has caused to dwell in us? (James 4:5)

“If God, who is spirit has made us in his image (likeness), then we should, beyond a shadow of a doubt know that we are spirit beings, a manifestation of the word,(God himself) and must derive our identity, worth, meaning, purpose and souls satisfaction from the Word, by faith, in a vertical relationship with God; not intangible things found in the physical world.”

In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”(Matthew 4:4)

He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. (Deuteronomy 4:3)

Who DO You Believe You Are?

For we are His workmanship [His masterwork, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set] so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].(Ephesians 2:10)

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light”.(1 Peter 2:9)

The conviction you have about who you are and in whom the Father says you are, are so important because they determine your outcome in life. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”. (Proverbs 4:23).

Why are we instructed to guide our hearts above all else, with diligence? It is because our hearts are extremely valuable, it is constantly under the attack of the enemy, and what flows out from it determines what we do and ultimately become. The only way we can effectively and diligently guide our hearts is by “studying”, “meditating” and “believing” the word of God. These tools are essential to faith-building.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Ephesians 6:16)

“We act out what we believe, and what we do determines our outcome (destiny)”.

If you are not convinced in who you are as a child of God, the devil will undoubtedly play games with your mind; He will orchestrate situations that will cause you to have a distorted view of who you truly are; Once this happens, he will ultimately steal your destiny; therefore intercepting God’s purpose for your life from coming to fulfilment.

Will, you today stand on every word of assurance and affirmation the Lord has spoken, proclaiming who you are in him; Will you today begin to guard your heart with all diligence, shutting the devil off when he comes whispering into your ears of your mind, his lies to have you see and believe something different from what the Father had said?

“This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success”.(Joshua 1:8)
